Andaman Airport: What We Know About Phuket’s Second Airport (2026 Update)
Last updated: 15 September 2026 · Independent information page — not affiliated with Airports of Thailand (AOT).

A new “Andaman” airport is planned for Phang Nga province, on the mainland north of Phuket. As of 2026 the project is still at the feasibility stage. It is not under construction, and there is no confirmed opening date. If you’re travelling to Khao Lak or Phang Nga now, you’ll fly into Phuket International Airport (HKT) as usual.
Where would the airport be?
The planned site is in Khok Kloi subdistrict, Takua Thung district, Phang Nga province — just across the water from the north of Phuket and closer to Khao Lak than today’s Phuket airport. It is intended to serve Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi and to take pressure off the busy Phuket airport.
What’s the current status?
In its management discussion for the first quarter of fiscal year 2026 (published February 2026), AOT said it is still studying the feasibility of the Andaman and Lanna airport projects. It has sent preliminary feasibility results to the Ministry of Transport, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) and the Civil Aviation Board for further consideration.
In other words: the project is moving through approvals, but no construction contract has been announced.
How big would it be?
Reports differ, partly because the airport is planned in phases:
– Earlier project descriptions put capacity at around 22.5–25 million passengers a year across two phases.
– In 2024, AOT’s then-president described a capacity of about 40 million passengers a year.
– Reported investment is roughly THB 75–80 billion.
– The site covers roughly 6,500–7,000 rai, part of it already government land.
These are planning figures, not guaranteed passenger numbers.
When could it open?
Timeline:
What will it be called?
There’s no final official name yet. You’ll see it described as “Andaman Airport”, “Andaman International Airport”, “Phang Nga Airport” or “Phuket’s second airport”.
What does this mean for travellers today?
Nothing changes for now. Fly into Phuket International Airport (HKT) — or Krabi (KBV) if it suits your route — and travel on by road. Khao Lak is about 75–90 minutes’ drive from Phuket Airport.
